Twilight Birthday Case: Charges dropped
Sometimes saneness claims its rights: All charges Samantha Tumpach faced for accidentially recording a few minutes of 'Twilight' were dropped
The 22 year old woman had been arrested at her sister's birtday party and was facing three years in prison for not being aware, that her birthday recordings included some portions of the film 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon', more or less exactly three minutes. As Samantha claimed, the small clips of the film had been recorded accidentially, while she filmed her sister's surprise birthday party, located at the cinema. No intentions whatsoever had been involved to record the movie and especially not to distribute it.
The incident happened to be "the worst event of her life", as her attorney described it. "She's traumatized by this." The women got arrested, spent two days in jail and was charged with criminal use of a motion picture exhibition.
It is not known, why exactly the charges were dropped, but public outrage as well as the intervention of Chris Weitz, director of 'New Moon', did certainly help to force the Motion Picture Association of America as the power behind the prosecutors to dismiss the charge.
