Boxee goes Windows goes public

Worth mentioning: The media center program Boxee has been pushed public in its Windows incarnation. The program is based on the open source XBMC media player and supports online content, which makes it more a social platform mc than the usual one with TV tuners - which it lacks, by the way.

Like noticed above, Boxee is primarily oriented toward viewing online content, like loads of TV content - except Hulu, the platform, which shuts itself out of the Boxee net by banning it and blocking Boxee users from using their service. Besides that Boxee lets users manage their collections of music, movies, and photos.

Unusual: To get a copy of the program one needs to register at the Boxee website first. Boxee is available for Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux, OS X, and Apple TV. This Windows alpha will be valid until later this year, when the first working Boxee beta is expected to be released.
